The Project

We are now beginning work on this project, in order to save these valuable commentaries from being forever lost.  The project will have four main phases which are outlined below:

A)     Extract: We need to extract the commentaries from the original microfilms which date from WWII (picture on the right). This requires enlarging the microfilms via advanced technology scanning.

B)      Decipher: Once the enlarged scans are obtained we need to enlarge each picture using software in order to decipher the Rogatchover’s commentaries from the scans. The writings are extremely difficult to make out and require photo enhancing followed by experts who can read the Rogatchover’s writing (see below). It is important to begin the deciphering process as soon as possible as there are very few experts left today who can still decipher the writings of the Rogatchover.

C)      Research: The next step is to research and interpret these commentaries. This is currently being done by Rabbi Benshimon – a leading expert on understanding the Rogatchover’s intended meaning. The Rogatchover was known to write in very few words and it requires Talmudic sages such as Rabbi Benshimon to research the Rogatchover’s intended meaning in his commentaries.

D)     Recover: Another important aim will be to recover some of the lost commentaries and correspondences.
