Dayan Rabbi Avraham Benshimon – Dean

Picture
Rabbi Avraham Benshimon is a dayan, scholar and educator in Montreal, Canada. He has recently completed his sixth volume on the Rogatchover’s commentary to Maimonides’ legal code and has brilliantly intertwined the words of the Rogatchover with his annotations and explanations. The first five volumes have been printed and are available today through Mossad Harav Kook and Jewish bookstores throughout the world. The work thematically annotates and explains the writings of Rabbi Yosef Rosen zt'l, who was known to brilliantly shape general rules for every single concept in Torah study.

The Rogatchover’s writings have primarily been relegated to the purview of a small cadre of scholars, which for many years has occupied a lofty space, inaccessible to the masses. A new volume written by Rabbi Benshimon has been released recently by the prestigious Jerusalem publishing house of Mosad Harav Kook which seeks to change all that, providing the keys, so to speak, to unlock the teachings of the early-20th century rabbinic leader.

Rabbi Benshimon, is also the dean of the post-yeshiva Kollel Ledayanus in Montreal’s Petach Tikvah Synagogue. He has currently published five books on the Tzafnat Pane’ach, which represents a practically unending quest to research every one of the sources referenced by the Rogatchover. When commentaries cite a source, they bring down a few words about what they’re referring to, however the Rogatchover never spells out what he’s referring to on the page, or sometimes in an entire chapter. The result is a brilliant and cohesive commentary put together by Rabbi Benshimon who works directly from the Rogatchovers’s handwritten notes.

Additional Staff

Additional staff members will be appointed in the near future. Additional staff is crucial to the development of the Tzafnat Pane’ach Institute, especially with regards to deciphering the material.
